THE STICKMAN

Back then in Israel. You remember Patyczek? You born there. Katan. He so small. I hold him in my yad. Katan like that. He a scared baby. Scared of everything, just like your mamma. I very scared of cockroaches. Jooks. Patyczek go to toilet one time. Closes toilet door, but behind toilet door is jook. You scream. Mamma scream. Cockroach scared. Pappa scared too! And crying, crying, crying. Like a little girl. Pappa comes. But I don’t see nothing. Except for jook. So we laugh. I kill jook. Easy. But always scared. Skinny arms. Skinny legs. Just like sticks. Like a stick man. Patyczek. A real Patyczek.

THE STICKMAN (age 10 and up) is a shamelessly absurd story about the quest of a Polish-Israeli family to find a home. It’s a story about being homesick for where you were born, breaking away from your roots, and discovering your parents aren’t always heroes. Tomer Pawlicki wrote the story, which is based partly on events from his own life.

THE STICKMAN has also been published in book form by De Nieuwe Toneelbibliotheek. Click on this link if you’d like to buy the book.

THE STICKMAN is co-produced by Dood Paard and Toneelmakerij, in collaboration with Theater De Krakeling, Amsterdam. By/With Paul Knieriem, Tomer Pawlicki, Manja Topper, Paulien Geerlings, Michael Yallop, Ramses van den Hurk and Manuel Boutreur.
